Dr. Tim Mullen talks about the future of neurotechnology at TEDxSanDiego: Revelations
On July 28 Dr. Tim Mullen (CEO, Intheon) gave a talk at a TED Salon, hosted at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, where he spoke about a future in which advanced neurotechnology is woven into the fabric of everyday life, a natural extension of Marc Weiser's (CTO, Xerox PARC) concept of "ubiquitous computing".
This is a vision that we at Intheon are dedicated to help bring about. One of our goals is to provide developers, scientists, and citizen-scientists alike easy access to advanced brain and body signal processing and brain state decoding from anywhere and on any device, empowering them to explore, create and develop new and innovative ways to incorporate advances in neuroscience within our daily lives and improve the human condition. Intheon's NeuroScale platform provides real-time and batch neural signal processing from any internet connected device through a simple API, and represents a significant step in this direction.
In the image below, Dr. Mullen is demonstrating the concept of "anytime, anywhere" neurotechnology by using the NeuroScale cloud platform to compute measures of person's heart and brain activity, mental relaxation level, and movement-based activity in real-time using an unobtrusive device worn by a member of the audience. The individual used Amazon Alexa to ask NeuroScale for their relaxation level over the past few minutes, which was provided as well as displayed in a web browser in real-time
